Well, summer is almost here. Our skin does not respond too well to the scorching heat of the summer sun—dehydration, harmful UV rays, blemishes, discoloration, sun burns, and wrinkles are few of the things our skin experiences every summer.
Here are few of tips that can help your skin survive this summer:
Exfoliate: Summer brings dust, heat, sweat that sticks to your skin. This clogs your pores, accumulatesdead cells, and makes your skin look dirty and oily. Exfoliate your skin to get rid of all that grime. Applyscrub, salt crystals, or sugar crystals in circular motion to exfoliate your skin. Feel free to exfoliate 2–3times a week.
Moisturize: Although summer skin is not as dry as winter skin, you need to moisturize it. The harsh hotweather makes the skin lose its moisture. Apply a light, fast absorbing moisturizer to keep your skinsupple.
Apply sunscreen: Select a sunscreen that offers UVA (responsible for premature ageing and skin cancer)as well as UVB (responsible for sunburn and skin cancer) protection. Typically, higher the SPF, the longerit can protect you from harmful sunrays. Apply sunscreen over all body parts that might be exposed tosun. Apply it 15–30 min before stepping out in the sun. Reapply sunscreen after contact with water orafter sweating. Wear lip balms or lipsticks with SPF.
To treat sunburn, apply aloe vera gel after cooling it in the fridge. Or, try a yogurt mask. Rubbing icecubes also works for some people.
Hydrate your skin: To keep yourself hydrated, drink 2–3 liters water per day (depending on howactive you are, which climate you live in, what your health status is, and so on). If plain water does notsound very interesting to you, feel free to have lemonade, fruit juices, or coconut water in lieu of somevolume of water. (Note: Drinking excessive water might be harmful for your kidneys and brain.) Applymoisturizing, water-based body lotion to keep your skin hydrated.
Avoid sun: Try to avoid being out in sun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—at this time, the sun is almost directlyoverhead and the UV radiation is the strongest. However, if you cannot that, use umbrella, sunglasses(with UV 400 protection, in dark colors), and hat (with broad rim) to protect your skin from sun.
Wear protective clothing: Clothes made of unbleached cotton; light, water-resistant nylon; linen; high-luster polyesters; and thin, satiny silk are best for summer. Garments with tight weaves or knits avertpenetration of harmful sunrays into the skin.
